Web Development by Zebra Garden
The Zebra blends in perfectly in it's natural environment. In the shadowy high grass of the savannah it can hardly be noticed. But when taken out of its natural enironment it is totally and utterly outstanding.
The zebra is an animal that everybody likes, it has almost no negative connotations, and still it is not a tame creature. You cannot ride a zebra. You cannot dictate its behaviour. You cannot run it before a coach.
In the name Zebra Garden lays something of the web envirionment we want to create together with our customers. Our customers websites should meet their needs so perfectly that the server used, CMS applied and complicated features building it should all become invisible. These are high goals, and should you feel that you are game for a whole new web publishing experience, we would very much like to show you more.
Zebra Garden Web Development Manifesto
Zebra Garden is the name of our web development company. We see the web design process as a process with three quite separate and yet intertwining phases. A good web site is build upon three pillars as we see it:
- Appearance
Appearance is what meets the eye, but also the total user experience. A well designed web site should be easy to navigate for all and still pleasing to look at. And when saying all, we include everybody. No browser limitations should apply, not even the tools used by blind people. All text based browsers should be able to browse a web site and see the full contents of it. This of course also applies to search engine bots. The websites we produce are accessibility optimized as well as search engine optimized, but always with full regard of a pleasing visual experience.
- Content
A web site without content is utterly useless. And all companies have different types of content. The design of a web site should always be based on the uniqueness of this content. This applies to the visual design, as well as to the features used on the website.
We like to think of this as content optimization.
- Features
The features used on a website should be designed with the regard of the appearance and contents of that particular site. For example, a search feature is useless if there is nothing to find on the site. Nothing is more discouranging than seeing a message that nothing could be found when you know that the site should cover the particular topic you searhed for. The opposite applies to dynamic expanding menues on a site with very much content. You don't need a menu expanded in 11 levels when you could just as well just have searched for it.
But most important. A site should be easy to update however big it is. A news story or an item for sale should be easy to duplicate or move to a different area of the site. New areas should be easy to add, just as obsolete content should be easily disabled.
We base all Zebra Garden produced websites on the KitSiPub Content Management System, developed for platform independent, dynamic web site management.
Network strength
Paraphrasing a well known saying we would like to state that a singular site is truly an island on the web. Together, a network of sites can work to strengthen eachother. That is why the sites mentioned here on ZebraGarden.com are doing so well.
